Stillorgan Team Clean Up at Taekwon-Do Nationals
A
team representing the Stillorgan School of ITF Taekwon-Do competed in the
National Championships in Cork at the weekend.
A total of 10 Stillorgan students participated and succeeded in bringing
home 10 awards, including 7 first places.
Stephen
O'Donnell and Rowan Brennan took first place in the Power and Patterns divisions
respectively. John Byrne battled
hard to win second place in the junior sparring event while David Lanigan
secured second place in the Patterns event. An impressive performance from John
Paul Shortt saw him take first place in the hand and foot Power sections and
third place in the Patterns event. However
it was their Instructor, Floyd Keane, 4th Degree Black Belt, who
stole the show winning first place in the Black Belt Patterns, Sparring and
Power events.
Instructors
Floyd Keane and Fiona Lyng, 2nd and 4th Degree Black Belts
respectively were delighted with their students' performance in this, the first
event of the tournament circuit this year.
The success is particularly significant as the Cork event was the first
tournament many of the students had entered.
The results augur well for the future and they are looking forward to
repeated success in the rest of the year's events, and the members are now in
training for the next tournament which will be held in Wexford in April.
